Shaft Maintenance

Regular maintenance will help keep your cue shaft clean, smooth and comfortable to play with.

For everyday care, a good buff with a clean, dry microfibre cloth is often all that is required. This will help remove light chalk dust and keep the shaft feeling smooth.

If grease, dirt or chalk residue gradually builds up, we recommend using a suitable cue shaft cleaning product wherever possible.

For an older or particularly dirty shaft, a very slightly damp cloth can be used if necessary. The cloth should never be wet, and the shaft should be dried thoroughly immediately afterwards.

Important Advice for New Cues

Avoid wiping a new cue down with a damp cloth unless absolutely necessary.

A new cue will normally have a thin protective oil finish on the shaft. Repeated cleaning with a damp cloth can gradually remove this finish, potentially leaving the wood feeling dry.

Regular use of water can also affect the surface fibres of an ash shaft, making the natural grain more prominent and potentially causing the shaft to feel less smooth.
